Providing Support
Have you experienced a new job or participated in a structured social interaction?
Do you recall learning about:

-
All the little intricacies and nuances that go into successfully completing a shift or participating in the interaction?
-
When it was appropriate to take a break or excuse yourself and when you should power through until the appropriate time?
-
The expectations of the social environment and the job you were hired to perform or the task you needed to accomplish?
-
Taking in and understanding the social queues and etiquette that go along with that particular environment?
To many people the skills above may seem like basic, expected skills and skill sets needed for starting a new job. And if you are one of those people and think you could help someone else work on those skills, then Job Coaching could be for you!
The clients we support have been deemed in need of a support system that provides assistance with these types of skills. As a job coach and a member of the Innovative Ways 4U team, you would be the one providing that direct support at the workplace. We provide this support to individuals with a variety of abilities and it would be a part of your job as a job coach to assess, with the support and tools provided by Innovative Ways 4U, the support needs of that individual and support and redirect them to stay on task and complete the job they were hired to do.
In this role you are expected to carry yourself in a professional manner, practice patience and understanding, and be a positive influence in the workplace. You would start out assessing and supporting each client very hands on at first, even in some cases working alongside the client, but eventually, over a matter of weeks, you would be expected to phase out your involvement with the client performing their job and only interceding when absolutely necessary. Allowing the client to gain independence, confidence and ideally performing the job without the need for job coach support.

Just Graduated high school and worried about your own work experience level?
Don’t fret. You’ve likely recently experienced many firsts in the last couple of years whether it was applying for and working at the same type of jobs our clients are hoping to get or participating and socializing in various high school activities and this is your first “real” job, the skills and social queues you learned from either experience will go a long way in providing the support our clients need from a job coach. With our participation in the Summer Earn and Learn program, this is also the ideal job for those graduates with only a summer to work and earn some extra money before leaving for college in the Fall.
